Distance to a Given Star in Light Years
STARLIGHT PAST AND FUTURE TIMES BASED ON STELLAR DISTANCE --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The current year is 2024.97 and the distance to the star is 1 LY. The currently received starlight would have left that star on its way to Earth in the year 2023.97 AD If Earth could be viewed from that distance, they would be seeing Earth as it was in that year. Our current sunlight will reach that star in the year 2025.97 AD The light from even the closest star takes over 4 years to reach Earth and the light from the nearest known galaxy takes 25000 years to reach us. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
